To start transferring / shipping files:
What is fileshipping.com
fileshipping.com aims to deliver a easy to use, no third-party, no man-in-the-middel, pure p2p file transfer service with minimal infrastructure. This means that no content of the files, or filenames of the files you select to transfer, are intermediately stored anywhere. The data are given passage straight from the sending browser instance directly to the receiving browser instance. Therefore no traces of the files or the filenames exist anywhere when you navigate away from fileshipping.com or refresh the page, except where they are suppost to be, in the sending and receiving browser instances and devices. Unfortunatly there is no guarantee that the technology will work between all networks and devices. With current browser support and network device support it is assumed to work between ~80% of all devices. So in the cases where a direct passage is not possible, a relay is used. No data is stored in this case either, but the encrypted passage goes through a central server / middel man. We will continually work to find new ways to remove the need for the relay. There is no advertisement on the site so to keep the service active and pay the bills it uses another experimental solution that uses extra CPU power from your device. This results in a higher power consumption of your device and ultimatly a higher electrical bill, especially if you use the service extensively. The extra CPU power consumption starts when you select a file or download a file. You can decide how much it is allowed to use and even turn it off, but it will automatically start using 10% of your CPU capacity What can you use fileshipping.com to do
It is meant to be used as an enabler for safe and secure passage / transfer of files ad-hoc. In this regard it is a good tool for transfering highly sensitive information, or to just transfer some files quickly from one device to another, without any third party intermediate storage involved. There is no limit to the filesize you can select, it can be as many gigabytes or even petabytes as you want, so it is perfect for transfering huge files. What can you NOT use it to do
It is not made for making files available permanently or long-term since it does not persist the files anywhere centrally. If you disconnect your device from the internet, for instance your laptop goes to sleep, or jump on another network, the fileshipping in progress will fail and the links will be invalid. You, in this case, will have to select the files from the storage and send new links to the receivers. You can not use it as backup since your files are not store in the service itself. It is not a collaboration service in itself, only a enabler of fileshipping. Who is behind fileshipping.com
Fileshipping.com is developed by Barbarossa laboritories and is hosted in our own test tubes. Fileshipping.com is the first service we have released, but more solutions will hopefully find their way to the public. Barbarossa laboratoriesWhy does fileshipping.com exist
The need for ad-hoc file transfer of sensitive files arises on several occations. To be in control of all parts of a file transfer you need to have an IT department and host your own services. Other types of centrally hosted services out there mainly rely on temorarily storing your data. Yes potentially encrypted, but still stored on their servers. That is a security risk on it-self. The central service probably also has a backup of the system and files to ensure your data in case of failure, and then your files suddenly exists a lot longer on someone elses servers than you expect. They almost always have size limits and costs money, often a monthley fee. So fileshipping.com was created as a supplementary service for all that needs ad-hoc confidential and secure file transfering, we call it fileshipping. This service is almost free, and no registration is needed to get started with fileshipping as large files as you need. Terms and conditions
